MPLS Coffee

MPLS Coffee is a comprehensive directory of coffee shops across the Minneapolis–St. Paul metro area in Minnesota. It catalogs cafes throughout the Twin Cities so locals and visitors can find shops by neighborhood, browse details, and discover places they haven't tried before.

The site is the work of Clint McMahon, a Minneapolis-based developer who runs Parka Software Co., effectively a one-person software consultancy. McMahon documented the project's origin on his blog at clintmcmahon.com in a post titled "Merging Coffee Apps." He had previously built three separate coffee-related side projects and wanted to consolidate them into a single, clean codebase. Rather than rewrite everything by hand, he used Claude — and specifically Claude Code for the substantial rebuild — to merge the three apps into one unified product.

In his own description of the build, McMahon credits Claude with doing the overwhelming majority of the engineering work: as he puts it, "Claude did 99% of the work." He acted as the architect and reviewer, directing Claude Code through the merge, schema decisions, UI cleanup, and feature consolidation, while Claude handled the actual code generation. The result is MPLS Coffee — a single, focused directory product instead of three half-finished side projects competing for attention.

The audience is hyper-local: Minneapolis and St. Paul coffee drinkers who want a curated, opinionated alternative to generic review platforms. Because McMahon lives in the area, he can keep the directory accurate, add new shops as they open, and prune ones that have closed — a level of editorial care that broad national platforms typically can't match.
